N2 - This article was aimed at applying the KoFI methodology to identify processes, external sources, and organizational knowledge flows that give rise and contribute to Universidad de Medellín’s national and international visibility strategy. The methodology will allow, in the specification and modeling phases of the process, to analyze and identify the main variables that must be taken into account to carry out a modeling of the measurement and classification process of products derived from research activities. The results show the specification and modeling of the scientific research process as a key process of the higher education institution that generates visibility; the identification and classification from the substantive functions of external sources of visibility knowledge and variables. The modeling of the scientific research process is obtained from the knowledge flow technique identifying: roles, sources, location and types of knowledge that flow in the process.
