Abstract
This paper analyses the concept of human rights defenders in environmental matters or environmental defenders, introducing its definition and current problems, emphasizing its status, and, finally, its projection. The methodology used for the creation of this paper is a documentary analysis of primary and secondary sources. This documentary analysis leads to the conclusion that there is still a doubt about the future of the traditional way of defense of the defenders, leaving as an immediate solution the development and active exercise of environmental citizenship.
