Description
Rural tourism is constituted as a sustainable development strategy in both developed and developing countries. However, the results of this relationship depend on the participation of the agents interested in the construction of territory. In the case of the department of Boyacá, Colombia, 46% of the population lives in rural areas and has cultural and natural potentialities for the development of rural tourism activities. However, the actions carried out to date have not been successful, this is because rural areas are complex and multifunctional where agents interact who, under formal and informal rules, are not always willing to collaborate, cooperate and coordinate actions in the construction of the territory. The purpose of the research is to explain the incidence of rural tourism in the sustainable development of the territory through the relationship between agents in the Department of Boyacá. Under a sequential mixed methodology, we first seek to define the concepts of rural tourism, sustainable development of the territory and governance based on a systematic review of the literature that allows us to determine the categories of analysis. Second, build a theoretical model that specifies the hypotheses of the relationship between rural tourism, sustainable development and governance. Finally, to validate the model based on the perception of rural tourism agents in the study area. It is expected to conceptualize the relationship between rural tourism and sustainable development of the territories from the institutional theory, and provide a model that can be adapted to similar contexts.
