Description
The university plays a determining role in the comprehensive training of individuals, which is why it has the obligation to include sustainability in its curricula, so that future professionals develop their work from a sustainable perspective, which leads them to act responsibly and committed to their closest environment. The process of permeating the curricula with the themes of sustainable development at the University is not easy and entails a profound transformation of the educational model. The challenge is to find the best way to make it effective, a path that each university must build. Taking into account the current context of Latin American convergence, which advocates training based on skills and competencies, we think that the methodological proposals are a way to include sustainability criteria in the classroom. In addition to this, Objective number 4 of the SDGs has as one of its goals "to guarantee that all students acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to promote sustainable development, among other things through education for sustainable development and the adoption of sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and the appreciation of cultural diversity and the contribution of culture to sustainable development, among other means " (un.org), a goal that will only be possible to achieve if the skills and competencies that future professionals are expected to acquire are transformed. This project will analyze the importance of incorporating sustainability into the higher education curriculum, in the creative disciplines, as an essential component of the training of future professionals. The first advances towards an inclusion of this dimension in the teaching activity, management and research are revealed, some difficulties encountered will be studied and proposals will be suggested to face them. The study focuses, in particular, on the training of students at different levels, through their immersion in the culture of sustainability, so that they can contribute to the education of responsible citizenship and prepared to participate in decision-making. decisions and deal with the serious socio-environmental problems that humanity faces with the adoption of well-founded measures.
