Acoplamiento de los modelos swmm y cuencas para predicción hidrológica en zonas urbanas

Project Details

Description

Population growth worldwide and urbanization lead to a continuous impact on the hydrological cycle. the waterproofing of the earth's surface changes the flow considerably, resulting in an increase in runoff volume, higher peaks and more frequent floods, among others. in addition, runoff in urban areas is one of the main sources of non-point pollution. the urban environment constitutes a system closely linked to the natural ecosystems in which it sits, which surrounds it and with which it interacts constantly. from this point of view, urban management is a complex problem that requires good hydrological prediction tools that allow a better approximation of flow predictions and therefore better runoff control and more effective design of drainage systems .

Objective

The general objective of this proposal is to develop a hydrological modeling tool for mixed systems (rural and urban), which can be used in the medellin basins and the metropolitan area, thus improving the prediction of peak flows and with it, the process of decision making, and drainage works designs

Expected results

This project will be the basis for future projects in urban hydrological modeling and hydrokinetic energy studies
